Random Facts - April 2026

One of the things that I have learned through writing a book is that you can learn some pretty interesting facts when doing research. My hope is to share some of the things I learned this month. Some of the items came up as research for the book, others through homeschooling my kids and some are just random facts that I heard at some point this month. Can you guess which ones are for my book?

Here they are are in no particular order:

  • Did you know that there are 7 different types of pocket watches? Pretty cool right? If you are curious, you can learn about them all here.

  • Freezing your bread lowers the glycaemic index. Not only does storing your bread in the freezer make it last longer, it can also be healthier for you. I heard this on the Mel Robins Podcast.

  • April 12th is Grilled Cheese Day

  • There are different names for kangaroos based on their size, species, and gender. While they all belong to the same family, Macropodidae ("big foot"), the colloquial names generally reflect their size. Kangaroo (large), Wallaroo (Intermediate), Wallaby (small). You can learn more about this amazing animal here.

  • Their are five egg-laying mammals. These are the platypus and four species of echidnas (spiny anteaters). Learn more

  • Did you know that microplastics can be found in chewing gum? Regular chewers (approx. 180 pieces/year) could ingest around 30,000 microplastics annually. This is pretty scary as I chew a lot of gum. You can learn more here.

Can you guess?

Let me know in the comments what you think is related to my book?
