eXciting Project Updates (with a little update on the book)- June 2026
Book Talk
Where oh where did this month go? Every year I think I am prepared for the end of the year and every year it turns out I am not! I did my best to stay on track with my writing goals and failed terribly. I got about 10 writing days from June 1 - 23 which is not as good as I hoped (my goal is to do something related to the book 5 days a week). I still made some progress but my writing word count was down from where I like it to be. I had a few evening meetings which explains some of the missed days but otherwise I was just tired. I’m hoping that I can recharge at the beginning of July and then come back strong over the summer.
That said, things are not all bad. The work I have put out has been rather exciting. I’m deep in the conclusion of my book and I am happy with it right now. I am about 70% done with most of what I have to do being wrapping up all the loose ends. I stalled out a bit this week as I have written most of the scenes I have pictured in my head and have to do a bit of dreaming to get the rest of the scenes correct. Some people plot things out, I tend to visualizing things happening in my head and then try to describe them to you. It is one of my big dreams to see this as a movie or mini series one day (how cool would that be) since I have spent so much time visualizing it, think it will translate well to the screen. I also have to decide just how wrapped up I want things. I personally hate cliff hangers (unless I have the next book ready to go). I don’t want to leave people frustrated with me for possibly years while I work on Book 2. But I also want to leave something hanging so that you all stick around. I have a few ideas on how that might play out but I guess we will all just have to wait and see.
The list of things that I still have to do with this book seems never ending right now. I want to finish the book but I also want to spend some time doing edits over the summer. I’ve gotten the first two chapters ready for people to read but everything still needs a of polishing before it is ready to start looking for someone to publish it. It seems to be a real challenge with how to spend my limited hours. Writing needs to happen but so do all the items of being an author and running the business of writing. Hopefully over the summer when my day job is slower, I can work on getting a better schedule so that I see some real momentum.
Everything Else
The really exciting news is that we had a new member of our family join us, Aritzia the guinea pig. In my last newsletter I mentioned that we were looking. Well things happened quickly and we brought her home on June 1st. A huge thank you to AARCS and her amazing foster family for taking such good care of her. She came from a failed breeder and even though she is only 8 months old, she has already given birth to two babies. We had tried for another guinea pig (we were looking for a single female which can be hard when you go the rescue route) which someone beat us to. We also were trying for one at the Calgary Humane Society which also fell through. Fortunately we got an email from AARCS letting us know that they had weaned her babies off her so she was ready to go. She is very small compared to our other pigs and she wears the older two out with all the running around that she does. We have done a few meetings but Cammie is really struggling to adjust so they still have bars between them. They can interact but are not in the same cage. Things can take time so we will be patient.
The weather has been a really hit or miss this month but we still made it out to the lake once. Of course I already got burned even with multiple sunscreen applications. We have a couple camping trips planned and the rest of the time will hopefully hang out with friends, beach hopping and hopefully reading.
