Last Month - Did you get them correct?
Last month I shared four different facts, only two of them were related to my book. Do you remember what your guesses were?
Here are the choices to refresh your memory:
Synanceia, normally referred to as Stonefish, are the most venomous fish in the world. The venom of the stonefish can kill an adult human.
The three most common types of shorthand are: Pitman Shorthand, Gregg Shorthand and Teeline Shorthand. Shorthand may not be as commonly used today as it once was but it is still popular in court reporting, journalism or for people looking for a tech free option to take notes quickly.
Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, known after 1911 as Piet Mondrian, was a Dutch painter and art theoretician. He was one of the pioneers of 20th-century abstract art and his influence extended to fashion and architecture.
The movie “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” was one of the most popular films of 1954, it made MGM a profit in excess of $3 million (which is around $37 million in 2026).
Drumroll please….. If you guessed that number two and four were book facts then you would be correct. In my book, one of the characters uses short hand as a bit of a code so that no one can read their notebook. I did some research about shorthand, most of which is not in the book.
Number four is a movie that I grew up watching. In the book, one of our characters mentions it.
The other two facts were homeschooling ones. My kids love animal facts but I did like this one about the Stonefish. It might be fun for a murder mystery….
One of the amazing moms in my homeschooling network is an artist and did a workshop about the art that Piet Mondrian is known for. We all then made art inspired by it. It was a lot of fun!
How are you going to do this month?
Here are four more facts, can you tell me which are related to book research and which ones are things I learned homeschooling my kids? Here is a hint, two of the facts are book related and two are from homeschooling.
More than 150,000 children attended Indian Residential Schools in Canada over a 150 year period. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) has documented at least 4,037 children died while attending these schools in Canada. They believe the actual number of deaths could be more than 6,000.
Beavers and muskrats are both semi-aquatic rodents, but they differ significantly in size, tail shape, swimming style, and behaviour. You can tell which is which when they are swimming, you can’t see a beaver’s tail but you can see a muskrats.
Katherine Paterson wrote Bridge to Terabithia to help process the sudden and tragic death of her 8-year-old son David's best friend, Lisa Christina Hill, who was struck and killed by lightning.
King George V is known as a passionate stamp enthusiast. His love for stamp collecting earned him the nickname 'The Collector King', and his legacy continues to be appreciated in the world of philately today.
